The Butcher of Khardov Nominated for Hugo Award

Cover: The Butcher of Khardov

Nominations for the Hugo Awards were announced this weekend, among them The Butcher of Khardov, written by Dan Wells and published by Skull Island Expeditions, an imprint of Privateer Press. I copyedited this novella, which is at once psychological, fantastical, and highly entertaining, in June of 2013. It’s an honor to have contributed to a project that fans enjoyed enough to nominate as one of only five contestants in the best novella category, alongside writers Charles Stross, Brad Torgersen, Catherynne M. Valente, Andy Duncan, and Ellen Klages, who appeared in publications such as Analog and Tor.com.

Privateer Press’s fiction imprint, launched in 2013, is off to a breathtaking start. Congratulations to author Dan Wells, editor Darla Kennerud, and all the staff at Skull Island Expeditions.

Kudos

If you want an editor with enormous professional integrity who isn’t afraid to tell you the truth about your work, but knows all about fragile egos and therefore murders your babies with courteous brutality; who is suitably persnickety without being pedantic; who always respects the writer’s voice and is just as committed to your project as you are: give Erin Wilcox a try. You will not be disappointed.”
